Helen Clarke is a solicitor specialising in elderly client and MCA 2005 issues. She lectures and delivers in-house training on a range of private client topics including elderly client issues, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and related issues.

Caroline Bielanska
our speakersCaroline Bielanska

Caroline is the former Chief Executive and former Chair of Solicitors for the Elderly, an organisation she helped to found in 1999. She delivers legal training for many CPD providers, including Central Law Training, MBL, The Solicitors Group, Professional Conferences and STEP, and is well known in her specialist field, advising older and vulnerable adults who have limited physical and/or mental capacity. Caroline is trained to use Makaton signs and symbols for clients who struggle to use spoken language. She provides consultancy for law firms on an independent basis and is on the Court of Protection Panel of mediators and a member of the Civil Mediation Council.

Caroline won the Trusted Advisor of the Year 2017 and the Vulnerable Client Practice Award 2017 in STEP’s Private Client Awards. She was a finalist in 2018 and 2019 in the Vulnerable Client Practice Award category. In 2019 Caroline was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Solicitors for the Elderly and made an honorary member of the Professional Deputies Forum.

Patricia Wass
our speakersPatricia Wass

Patricia has 35 years’ experience working as a Solicitor dealing with all aspects of private client law and is a consultant in the mental capacity team at Enable Law (part of the Foot Anstey Group). Patricia specialises in Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection work and legal issues relating to the elderly and vulnerable. She lectures regularly on her practice area for various legal training providers and contributes articles to legal journals.

Patricia is the immediate past Worldwide Chair of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners. She is a Past Chair of the Law Society Private Client Executive Committee. She served as a member of the STEP Council and remains a Director on the STEP Worldwide Board.

Patricia is a fully accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE). Patricia is also a member of The Professional Deputies Forum. Patricia is recognised as a Top Ranked ‘Leader in her Field’ by Chambers UK legal directory.
